Chicago musical history is filled with iconic performers and one of those is Mavis Staples. She’s worked with everyone from The Band to Prince and Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy. Mavis takes center stage in the new biography, I’ll Take You There: Mavis Staples, the Staple Singers and The March Up Freedom’s Highway. The book’s author is Sound Opinions co-host and Chicago Tribune music critic Greg Kot. He shares some of what he learned about Mavis and her art.
