A few weeks ago, we brought you an interview about the paw paw, the largest edible fruit native to the United States. Now we tackle a quirky vegetable called the Beaver Dam Pepper. It’s an heirloom variety — a little sweet, a little spicy — and it originated in Hungary. It got its name from the town in Wisconsin where it was grown for several decades until the 1950s. Now the pepper is making a comeback, thanks largely in part to Lee Greene, owner of Scrumptious Pantry. She talks about the pepper and sticks around to share her life in three songs.
