NCAA reaches settlement with players

In 2011, a former football player for Eastern Illinois University filed suit against the NCAA. It accused the college sports behemoth of not understanding, testing, warning or caring for athletes who sustained head trauma while playing for a school team. That single suit became a class-action as more athletes joined in. The situation was in limbo until some rumblings on Monday that became a preliminary approval for a settlement Tuesday. Author, journalist and commentator John U. Bacon talks about what the settlement covers, what it doesn’t cover, how it’s different from the NFL concussion case and what it means for college sports going forward. Photo: Flickr/Schlüsselbein2007
