Chicago community groups are calling on the city to fund violence prevention programs with unused money from property tax rebates. 

The city set aside $20 million dollars for property tax rebates last year and only a small portion of it has been claimed. Neighborhood groups want the city to use the remainder on things like year round jobs for kids and more street-level intervention programs. 

Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s office says it has identified more than $5 million dollars for safety measures like police body cameras and rehabbing vacant homes.
