Considering it’s been only six weeks since Kaylin Krashesky began anchoring the morning news in Medford, Oregon, it might be a bit premature to talk about landing an on-air job in Chicago just yet. But you can’t blame her —  or her famous father — for dreaming.

“Kaylin’s hometown is Chicago and I’m sure she would love to return here someday — not only because it’s ‘home’ but also because it’s such a great city for news,” said Alan Krashesky, the 4 and 6 p.m. weekday news anchor at WLS-Channel 7 and 28-year veteran of the top-rated ABC-owned station. “She grew up on a steady diet of Chicago journalism, but for now she’s very happy to be in Southern Oregon. It’s a beautiful area and she’s embracing and covering all the outdoor and cultural activities it has to offer.”

Kaylin, 23, the oldest of the Krasheskys’ three children and the senior class president of Naperville Central High School (Class of 2005), received a degree in broadcast journalism from the University of Missouri last year and has been on a fast track ever since. After handling a variety of jobs for the university’s KOMU-TV in Columbia, Mo., and an internship at Channel 7 here, she worked as a videojournalist and associate producer at WMBF-TV in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Her anchor break came in late June, when she signed on as a reporter and morning news anchor at KDRV-TV, the ABC affiliate in Medford — the No. 140 media market, according to NewsBlues.com.

“I couldn’t be happier about Kaylin’s new position,” said her father, one of whose early roles at Channel 7 was as first anchor of its weekday morning newscast. “She’s a hard-working video journalist and I know she’ll bring both professionalism and a great attitude to the morning news in Southern Oregon and Northern California. She’s especially excited that this job gives her the opportunity to anchor as well as report.”

What about the prospect of working together someday? In a town of Ponces, Jordans, Jiggettses, Volkmans and other broadcast dynasties, let’s just say the thought has crossed Alan Krashesky’s mind:

“Chicago certainly has its share of ‘legacy family’ journalists, and Kaylin’s not in this to merely expand the category. She truly loves what she does for a living and is eager to pave her own way. At the same time, I’d have to admit that I’ve mused about the possibility of her working here in Chicago someday.‚ A father-daughter team at the same station? Who knows? She might enjoy being in competition with me!”

To her credit, Kaylin doesn’t seem to be getting too far ahead of herself. In a message on her website, she recently wrote:

“Journalism excites me. I love how every day is different. There is always a new story to be told and I want to be the one telling it. I come from a family with a background in broadcast news. You could say it’s in my blood. Journalism comes naturally to me and I can’t imagine doing anything else. Simply put: I love what I do and have faith the rest will all fall in place.”
