Fashion historian Tanisha C. Ford’s new book, Dressed in Dreams: A Black Girl’s Love Letter to the Power of Fashion, is a coming of age story of her life in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Clothes are never just garments. And Ford writes about hip hop’s baggy jeans, how wearing the wrong color gym shoes could get you beaten up and how black style is appropriated by the mainstream fashion industry. She spoke to WBEZ’s Natalie Moore for more on her new book and how her personal style has evolved over the years.
