Chicago’s City Council recently-passed measure changing the inventory landscape of the city’s pet stores hasn’t gone over well with some of the city’s 16 pet store owners. Starting next march, pet stores will only be allowed to sell animals, mostly dogs, supplied from government pounds, humane societies and rescue operation, cutting breeders out the mix. There have been growing concerns nationally about the breeding and treatment of some animals, and Ald. Joe Moreno said the ordinance — which passed 49-1 — is a good step toward preventing terrible practices of animal abuse. Animal welfare advocates applaud the ordinance. Ald.
