Pew Center on the States has released a report that provides the first breakdown of state correctional spending in seven years. Some of the findings include that Indiana has three adults on parole or probation for every one in prison or jail, and the state spends only two cents on this population for every dollar spent on people in prisons and jails. The Pew Report offers new research on how effective community correction programs like parole or probation can help decrease recidivism and reduce the high cost of incarceration. Adam Gelb is the director of the Public Safety Performance Project at the Pew Center on the States, which produced the report.
