For the first time in Nigeria’s history, a sitting president has been defeated. Muhammadu Buhari won the election and defeated incumbent Goodluck Jonathan by about 2 million votes. Buhari said his victory was proof that Nigeria has embraced democracy. Nigeria has a long history of military rule, coups and election fraud. We’ll discuss the results of the vote with Clement Adibe, professor of political science at DePaul University.
