North Lawndale Bird-Themed Mini Golf Course ‘Douglass18’ Takes Flight

A youth-designed miniature golf course in North Lawndale spotlights migratory birds, and is now open to the public.

Community leaders and students spent two years rebuilding a dilapidated mini-golf course in Douglass Park on Chicago’s West Side, using the park’s bird population as inspiration for the new design.

Reset checks in with two people deeply involved in the project about the choice to highlight birds, and what they hope the golf course will bring to the community.

GUESTS: Eric Hotchkiss, lecturer in the Architecture, Interior Architecture and Designed Objects Department at SAIC

Sheila McNary, executive member and chair of the Arts & Culture Committee of the North Lawndale Community Coordinating Council
