Illinois U.S. Sen. Barack Obama is calling for new energy reforms to clean up the environment.

Obama says automakers should increase the fuel economy of every car they make. And he wants all cars to be energy-efficient within a decade.

He also says remaining dependent on oil will send future generations toward an environmental catastrophe.

“So any plan for the future must drastically reduce our addiction to this dirty, dangerous and ultimately finite source of energy,” he says.

Obama says President Bush has not spent enough money for alternative fuels.

But a spokesperson for the Republican National Committee says the president’s energy policy already makes efforts to decrease dependency on foreign oil.
