In a statement on Thursday President Obama said the United States “strongly condemns the steps that have been taken by Egypt’s interim government and security forces” and that the U.S. opposes “the pursuit of martial law.” He added that in response to the violence that has taken place over the last week, the U.S. could not continue its traditional cooperation and would be canceling its biannual joint military exercise with Egypt, which was scheduled to take place next month. We’ll assess the U.S. response to the ongoing political crisis in Egypt with Brian O’ Neill, a freelance writer and U.S. foreign policy analyst. Also, the U.S. embassy in Sanaa, Yemen remains closed nearly two weeks after the U.S. issued a global terror alert and shut more then 19 diplomatic outposts throughout the Middle East and North Africa.
