Asked yesterday what would happen if Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans make good on promises to scrap the Affordable Care Act, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle said, “It will be a nightmare for us.”

Preckwinkle said when she came into office, in 2010— before the affordable care act was implemented— the county health system took in about $400 million from local taxpayers. This year, she said, that number is down to about 100 million, and the savings are largely due to Obamacare’s expansion of Medicaid.
