On Monday Chicago painter Kerry James Marshall unveils a huge mural on the side of the Chicago Cultural Center in the Loop honoring 20 pioneering women in Chicago arts and culture.

The 132-by-100 foot mural includes writers, artists, directors, actors and cultural figures from past and present, including household names like Oprah Winfrey, poet Gwendolyn Brooks and former Chicago first lady and arts booster Maggie Daley, as well as plenty of names that should be.

On Monday and Tuesday Morning Shift sits down with some of those pioneering women working today, including actress and director Sandra Delgado, founder and artistic director Chicago Shakespeare Theater Barbara Gaines, and, in this interview, Jacqueline Russell, founder and artistic director of the Chicago Children’s Theatre.
