Section 1504 of the “Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act” requires mining and energy companies to publicly disclose when they pay governments for the right to extract their natural resources. Oxfam America is suing the U.S. Securities Exchange Commission (SEC), claiming it’s not enforcing the law. We’ll ask Ian Gary, senior policy manager for extractive industries at Oxfam America, what his group hopes to accomplish from the lawsuit.
