At last week’s Paper Machete, Chicago’s Michael Patrick Thornton recapped a live announcement made by The Lyric Opera made about their first ever Creative Consultant position, to be filled by opera star Renée Fleming. Thornton delivered a perhaps uncomfortably detailed play-by-play of the event, zeroing in on the discomfort of Lyric Opera’s creative staff. He added a few talking points that the panelists neglected to address to his fellow operagoers including the fact that disabled patrons like himself don’t have supernatural powers that allow them to open doors with their minds. Listen above.
