When Dese’Rae L. Stage began to focus her graduate psychology studies on suicide her professors told her she couldn’t pursue that topic. She says that historically stigmatization of the topic prevents further research. Since then, she’s worked to break the taboo of talking about surviving a suicide attempt. Her project Live Through This features a portrait of an attempt survivor and audio of their story. Dese’Rae L. Stage explains how she’s working to to break down the walls around the discussion of suicide.
