It’s a little dumpling but it makes so many people happy. The annual Pierogi Fest is underway.

Carolina Matyszewski has been preparing for this day for months now.

Matyszewski expects to sell thousands of the polish favorite, pierogi, over the next three days here in Whiting.

While it’s a lot of work, Matyszewski, of Chicago, says it’s well worth the effort. And, she says, there’s no wrong way to fill a pierogi.

MATYSZEWSKI: Everybody has their favorite. We have cheese, meat, potato and sour kraut. You can also make them one strawberry, blueberries, plums.

This is Pierogi Fest’s 14th year.

The International Polka Parade kicks off along 119th Street on Friday night.
