In the first profile of Front & Center’s series, American Dream Deferred?,reporter Niala Boodhoo brought us the story of immigrant and father, Roberto Silva, who has journeyed from Mexico to Milwaukee in search of the American Dream.

Roberto’s dreams, however, have been put on hold as he and other workers at the Palermo’s Pizza plant struggle to regain their lost jobs and fight for better working conditions. They’re joined in their fight by Voces de la Frontera, an immigrant rights group based in Milwaukee. Among their ranks are many young immigrants, who like Roberto, are looking to build pathways to prosperity for immigrants in the United States. 

One young man, Jorge Maya, recently talked with Front & Center about his personal journey as well as his work with Voces de la Frontera.
