Poland currently gets at least 80 percent of its electricity from coal. The country has a long tradition of coal production, but like a lot of places, its coal industry is in decline and many coal miners are finding themselves out of work.
While many of its fellow EU nations are moving toward renewables, leaders from Poland’s conservative Law and Justice Party have said the country will focus its attention on the country’s coal deposits.
Kathiann Kowalski, a reporter for Midwest Energy News, has written about Poland’s coal industry. She joins us to talk about what the government is doing to try to save it.
