By Amber FisherThe Trump administration held its first public hearing on its Affordable Clean Energy plan in Chicago on Oct. 1 at the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Chicago’s regional offices. The 1963 Clean Air Act requires the federal government to hold at least one hearing on proposed regulations. Trump’s plan, unveiled Aug. 20, rolls back the Obama administration’s Clean Power Plan. Finalized in 2015, the Obama-era regulations failed to get off the ground due to litigation. According to its own current analysis, the EPA says President Trump’s new plan may annually cause up to 1,500 more people to die prematurely from pollution. Joining us is Howard Learner, executive director of the Environmental Law & Policy Center. He testified at the Oct. 1 public hearing.
