In the northeastern city of Harbin, schools and roads remain closed due to low visibility from thick smog that has covered the city. Pollution levels remain way above international standards. But China’s pollution problem isn’t the only environmental problem facing the country. There are growing concerns about the safety of the water supply and the food system. Judith Shapiro, author of China’s Environmental Challenges and director of Natural Resources and Sustainable Development Masters program at the School of International Service at American University, joins us to discuss the government response to the pollution problem.
