In a recent interview with the Italian daily Corriere della Sera, Pope Francis, speaking about the church sex abuse scandal, said “The Catholic Church is perhaps the only public institution to have acted with transparency and responsibility. No other has done more. And, the Church is the only one to be attacked.” The interview followed a report by the UN which found the Vatican had not done enough to protect children from the abuse of priests. John Thavis, author of “The Vatican Diaries”, joins us for an update. Thavis has covered the Vatican for more than 30 years, many as Rome bureau chief for the Catholic News Service.
