In the aftermath of the terror attacks in France, a group of Republican lawmakers have proposed legislation that would slow the release of prisoners from Guantanamo. The Obama administration moved 28 prisoners out of Guantanamo in 2014, the largest number since 2009. This week The Obama administration has moved five additional prisoners out of the Guantanamo Bay detention center, sending four Yemeni inmates to Oman and one to Estonia. The new legislation would, among other things, prohibit the transfer of any detainees to Yemen for the next two years. We’ll talk about the proposed legislation with Andy Worthington, an investigative journalist and author of The Guantánamo Files: The Stories of the 774 Detainees in America’s Illegal Prison. He is the co-founder of the Close Guantanamo campaign. PHOTO: This undated photo released by the Aamer family, shows Shaker Aamer, a Saudi citizen and the last citizen of Britain being held at GITMO.
