A private development team is now in control of the restoration of the old Cook County Hospital. Chicago-based Civic Health Development Group signed a 99-year land lease with Cook County officials late last month. The group plans to invest $130 million to transform the old hospital. Once complete, the plan will include a hotel, retail space, and administrative offices for the county’s health and hospitals system. The first tenants in the restored structure are expected to move in next year.
