Thousands of people from around the world, representing farmers, workers, activists and NGOs like indigenous and human rights organizations, are gathering to protest at the annual World Bank meetings in Washington D.C. as part of a campaign called “Our Land Our Business: Facts we should know about the business of land grabs.” The movement is protesting what they call the World Bank’s “economic activity that destroys biodiversity and the livelihoods of smallholder farmers, pastoralists, and indigenous communities.” Anuradha Mittal, executive director of the Oakland Institute, a policy think tank, is one of the groups taking part in the protests. We’ll ask her about the wide-ranging campaign and her group’s report, in conjunction with the protests, called Unfolding Truth: Dismantling the World Bank’s Myths on Agriculture and Development.
