Labor Day weekend marks the opening of the Pullman National Monument, honoring the history of one of the country’s early company towns.

Chicago’s known as the city of neighborhoods, with each having its own personality. But only one is a national monument. A trip to Pullman’s Historic District can feel like time traveling to the 1880’s, but this far South Side community is also held up as a model for urban revitalization.
