The deaths of African-American men such as Eric Garner, Michael Brown and 12 year-old Tamir Rice have provoked not only debate and analysis of race in America, but mass protest. But racism can take on different forms abroad. We’ll discuss the similarities and differences with photojournalists Michael Bracey and Carlos Javier Ortiz. Bracey is editor of Africans Within the Americas, a photo project of the African diaspora in the Americas and Caribbean. Ortiz is a contributor with “Facing Change: Documenting America,” a collective of photographers and writers covering under-reported aspects of American issues. His recent project with the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting, compares urban violence in Chicago and Guatemala. Ortiz is also author of the book, We All We Got. (Photo by Carlos Javier Ortiz)
