Singer and musician Jason Molina created a devoted following as the artist behind bands Songs: Ohia and Magnolia Electric Co. He built a loyal following from his prolific time on the road, and through his albums recorded with Chicago’s famed producer Steve Albini. But he also harbored demons and struggled with alcoholism which finally took his life in spring 2013. Now, fans will have another opportunity to peer into his world or meet the man behind the music for the first time. Music journalist Erin Osmon is writing a book about Molina and his label Secretly Canadian is planning to re-issue the Songs: Ohia album Didn’t It Rain: Deluxe Edition. We talk to Osmon about Molina’s life and hear some of the late rocker’s music. Photo: Flickr/Dani Canto
