The stories may be old, but our love for them never dies. We’re talking about fairy tales. For example, the live-action remake of Disney’s Cinderella topped the U.S. box office for the weekend with over $70 million in ticket sales. And while Frozen may be a modern-day fairy tale, it’s proof that tales of princesses, talking animals, baddies, and a bit of magic continue to have a powerful hold on our imagination. Harvard professor Maria Tatar researches and teaches Germanic languages, folklore, and children’s literature, and recently had the honor of translating a lost-and-found treasure trove of stories from Bavaria.
