Agencies that help refugees resettle in the Chicago area say the new travel ban could hobble their programs in the long-term. The ban halts refugee resettlements to the U.S. for four months and slashes overall refugee resettlements for the remainder of the fiscal year. This will mean deep cuts at local resettlement agencies, such as Heartland Alliance and Catholic Charities, which fear that they’ll have to lay off staff.
