Religious thrift stores are undergoing a transformation. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is opening new thrift stores or remodeling existing ones in Chicago and the suburbs. So is the Salvation Army. It’s celebrating the second anniversary of its flagship store in Lincoln Park this Saturday with a concert and fashion show. Shoppers at these locations are seeing wider aisles, better lighting and more designer goods. The Salvation Army’s Major John Aren joins us to explain this trend toward more upscale thrifting.
