Listen to Sound Opinions’ hosts remember Davy Jones on Afternoon Shift
This morning Davy Jones was reported dead of a heart attack at age 66. The lead singer of The Monkees began his career as an actor, but became a teen idol as The Monkees music career took on a life of its own. He’d performed as recently as this month.
Jim DeRogatis and Greg Kot join Steve Edwards to discuss the legacy of The Monkees and Davy Jones in particular. They point out that Jones had a background on Broadway before being cast in the TV band. The crucial point is made by DeRogatis that as heartthrobs go, Davy Jones was certainly cooler than David Cassidy or Justin Beiber.
