A new report from a watchdog group says a Chicago alderman’s murky arrangement with a lobbyist could violate ethics rules.

Project Six, a government watchdog group, says Alderman Brendan Reilly, 42nd Ward, is treating one of his political advisors as staff. The group says Madeleine Doering is a lobbyist for real estate developers and is paid through the alderman’s political committee. After reviewing emails, Faisal Khan with Project 6 says Doering actually seems to be working as Reilly’s unofficial chief of staff.

City ethics laws prohibit city employees from acting as lobbyists.

Reilly’s office did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
