Chicago-based artist Garland Martin Taylor has replied to Chicago’s gun violence with a 380 pound sculpture that he drives around town on the back of his Ford pick up. It’s a giant metal revolver — a gun. On the sculpture’s surface, Taylor stamps all the names of children and teenagers killed by guns in Chicago since 2007. It’s called “Conversation Piece” and its goal is just that — to start conversations about gun violence in our city. We speak with Garland to learn more about his project. (Garland Martin Taylor)
