The Chicago Police Department and Mayor Rahm Emanuel apologized for how hip-hop artist Che ‘Rhymefest’ Smith was treated when tried to file a police report after being robbed at gunpoint. He was denied a few times before an officer finally took his statement.

Smith says his experience reveals a larger issue. He says people in his community have long felt disrespected and that’s why many don’t want to file police reports.

The rapper wrote a song about his experience called “Cops ‘N’ Robbers”.

Track contains explicit language.
