The world is struggling with a global obesity epidemic, and it’s projected to grow worse over the next few decades. According to the World Health Organization, at least 2.8 million people die each year as a result of being overweight or obese.

Max Galka, the creator of the data-mapping platform Blueshift, has recorded obesity growth around the world in an interactive map. According to the data used in his visualization, the average adult is three times more likely to be obese than the average adult in 1975. Galka hopes the map will call attention to the epidemic and help dispel the stigma around obesity.

We discuss what is causing the global obesity epidemic, and how it can be stopped with World Health Organization Diet & Physical Activity Representative Dr. Leo Nederveen.
