He demanded a full independent investigation. A bipartisan group of U.S. Senators want to invoke the Global Magnitsky Act, only enacted after a country’s gross violation of human rights. The Act can only be implemented by the President. The Magnitsky Act would call for sanctions on Saudi Arabia. President Trump has four months to reply to the request. For analysis, we turn to Trita Parsi, founder and president of the National Iranian American Council. A writer and speaker, Parsi is an expert on U.S.-Iranian relations, Iranian foreign politics, and Middle East geopolitics. His most recent book is Losing an Enemy: Obama, Iran, and the Triumph of Diplomacy.
