Authorities have charged a second man in the execution-style murder last November of 9-year-old Tyshawn Lee.

Dwright Boone-Doty was charged Tuesday with Tyshawn’s murder. It shocked the boy’s South Side neighborhood, and the rest of the city.

At a press conference with police on Tuesday, Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez revealed several chilling details about the case. She said that Doty had planned to torture the boy by cutting off his fingers.

Doty allegedly lured Tyshawn from Dawes Park in the South Side neighborhood of Auburn Gresham by offering to buy him whatever he wanted from the store, Alvarez said.

After he allegedly shot the boy in an alley, Doty remarked, “Shorty couldn’t take it,” Alvarez said. Then, she said, Doty has said he planned to go back to the park with plans to “shoot it up” and “kill all the children there” but was prevented by the fact that police were already there.

Authorities at the press conference were not giving details of how they learned of those statements by Doty.

The calculated killing of Tyshawn Lee made national headlines and Interim Police Chief John Escalante, as well as Alvarez, said it was one of the most horrific incident they have come across in their decades in office.

Alvarez said Tyshawn’s murder was the second that Doty allegedly committed over the span of six weeks. Doty also was charged with the October murder of 19-year-old Brianna Jenkins. Police said Jenkins was in a car with the intended victim, who was also shot in the incident.

According to Alvarez and police, the killings are part of both an ongoing feud between factions of two old Chicago gangs, the Gangster Disciples and the Black P. Stone Nation.

In August, Tracey Morgan, a member of the Black P. Stone’s Terror Dome faction, was killed.

His brother Corey Morgan allegedly set out to avenge his death, which he blamed on the Gangster Disciples’ Killa Ward faction.

Corey Morgan is the other man charged in the killing of Tyshawn Lee. Police say Tyshawn Lee’s father is a member of the Killa Ward gang.

Two months before allegedly killing Jenkins, Doty left an Illinois prison on parole two years after being convicted of a gun charge.

Chicago Police Chief of Detectives Eugene Roy said that what happened to Tyshawn Lee is an example of what is wrong with the criminal justice system.

“A convicted gun offender out on the streets to kill again,” Roy said. “We can’t keep letting this broken system tear apart our communities and families.”

Escalante noted that the arrest of Doty could lead to another spike in violence and that the police department has already put additional resources in the Auburn Gresham community.
