Summer weather is finally upon us, with warmer temperatures and sunshine over the weekend.

What to see

Hyde Park Art Center’s 80th birthday - Celebrate 80 years of the Hyde Park Art Center on Saturday, July 13, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 5020 S. Cornell Ave. Stop by anytime for free art-making activities, school and studio drop-in demos, new exhibitions and more.

The 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup final - The game is on at 4:30 a.m., and if you’re still up from bar hopping on Saturday night, it’s a nice easy transition. Bars like the Ambassador Public House in Greektown and others should be open.

The Mermaid Diva Show - The divas of Chicago’s Kit Kat Lounge and Supper Club will perform songs in the persona of well-known female singers at 3 p.m. on the west side of Buckingham Fountain for all five days of Taste of Chicago, from July 10-14.

What to hear

V103 Summer Block Party with Jill Scott - Get your groove on at Huntington Bank Pavilion at Northerly Island on Saturday at 6 p.m. with singer and actress Jill Scott. Other headliners include platinum-selling rhythm and blues singer Anthony Hamilton, Feel So Good rapper Mase and R&B chart-topper Carl Thomas. 

Beach Slang at the Empty Bottle - Wrap up your weekend with a performance by Philly indie-punk outfit Beach Slang on Sunday, 9 p.m., at the Empty Bottle, 1035 North Western Ave. Tickets are $15 and the event is for ages 21 and up.

HR of Bad Brains at Reggies - Best known as the front man of the iconic punk band Bad Brains, Paul “HR” Hudson is still making music history at the age of 63. Catch HR at Reggies Chicago, 2105 S. State Street, on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

What to eat

Taste of Chicago - The 39th annual event kicked off Wednesday and runs through Sunday, featuring over 36 new restaurants to try and about 80 restaurants overall. Not sure where to start? Check out Eater Chicago’s survival guide to Chicago’s biggest food event.

Windy City Smokeout - Stop by Chicago’s barbecue and country musical festival for good eats and entertainment, from Friday through Sunday, at the United Center Parking Lot C, 1901 W. Madison Street. This year’s festival features a special appearance by Wagyumafia, the sensation created by Tokyo’s notorious wagyu master Hisato Hamada, on Saturday.

Virtue Restaurant - This sophisticated Southern hotspot stationed in Hyde Park is the sole Chicago representative on Eater National’s list of the 16 best new restaurants in America. Stop by the restaurant and bar at 1462 E. 53rd Street to see for yourself.
