The landmark Supreme Court decision Brown vs. Board of Education blew up the common practice of legally segregated schools-along with the notion that “separate but equal” could ever be equal. To mark the 60th anniversary of this momentous decision, ProPublica’s Nikole Hannah-Jones looks at the realities of segregated education today. We hear from Ms. Hanna-Jones about the school she profiles in Alabama, and we also hear the voices of Chicago high school students, talking about attending segregated schools, captured by WBEZ’s Linda Lutton back in 2012.
