The gunman who opened fire on a gay nightclub in Orlando early Sunday morning has been identified as 29-year-old Omar Mateen. He was an American born in New York, who was the son of an immigrant from Afghanistan. Authorities say Mateen called 911 during the attack to declare his allegiance to ISIS, entangling the role of religious extremism into the deadliest shooting in U.S. history. 

We speak to Imam Abdul Malik of the Sound Vision Foundation and actor and writer Fawzia Mirza about how the tragedy is bringing the Islamic community and the gay community together in speaking out against both Islamophobia and homophobia.
