More than 30 Cook County nurses are planning to help with the relief effort in Haiti. The nation is recovering from this week’s powerful earthquake. Margarette Dupiton is one of the nurses who will travel to Haiti this weekend. She says she hasn’t been able to contact her cousins who live in the country.

DUPITON: I left my TV on for 24 hours, and until yesterday I haven’t seen a Haitian yet with a bottle of water in their hand. No food. So can anybody imagine that?

County Board President Todd Stroger says he’ll find a way to pay for the nurses to work in Haiti. County officials are also taking an inventory of surplus medical supplies to send to the country.
