New provisions of the nation’s Food Safety Act are meant to protect consumers from tainted produce, but some farmers, advocates and anti-obesity groups believe they will shut down small to medium-sized farms in Illinois and beyond. Consumers have until November 15 to register their thoughts on the rules through the government’s comment site.
