Durell Jones said he and the other members of the local a cappella group The Remedy support their families by singing in the subway. On an average day there, he said the group collects about $700.

They met in high school and have been together for 10 years. They competed on “America’s Got Talent,” and last year shot a commercial for Glade air fresheners.

Jones said he noticed last Thursday evening that a Facebook video of the group performing on a Blue Line subway platform—uploaded earlier that day by a postal worker—had racked up 9,000 views. He said he went to bed wondering if it would go viral.

“Woke up in the morning, it had almost 3 million views,” he told WBEZ on Monday. “I started running around the house.”

By late Monday afternoon, that number climbed up to nearly 27 million views. The clip had been shared more than 200,000 times. 

Jones said his phone has been ringing with promising-sounding offers.

“So, you know, keep your fingers crossed,” he said. “We may not be in them subways anymore.

For now, he said the Jackson and Lake stops on the Blue line are where to find them.
