In Hong Kong, tens of thousands of students and educators have taken over the streets demanding more autonomy and political freedom. The main goal of protest groups like “Occupy Central with Love and Peace” and “The “Umbrella Revolution” is to move the Chinese government towards free and open elections in 2017. The Chinese government, though hesitant to engage in a full crackdown on the protesters, has been shutting down social media and internet access. And warnings from Beijing are increasing.
