Almost all of Illinois’ immigrants -90 percent- live in the six counties that make up the greater Chicago region. And half of them are women. Immigrants are far from a monolithic group-they come from all over to live and work in Chicago, and face unique challenges. A new report from Chicago Foundation for Women and Heartland Alliance places a focus on some of the issues that may be holding back female immigrants in Chicago. We talk with Chicago Foundation for Women K. Sujata and Heartland Alliance’s Maggie Schultz about their recommendations for policymakers, law enforcement and academic institutions on how to best confront some of the problems unique to female immigrants.
