According to new research, traditionally gay neighborhoods like Chicago’s Boystown, San Francisco’s Castro District, New York’s Chelsea and many others are becoming less gay, and even losing their LGBT cultural identity. Why is this happening? And just as ethnic enclaves slowly disappear as residents become part of the American melting pot, do we still need specifically gay neighborhoods?
