School district officials in north suburban Palatine say it was a difficult school day.
More than 450 District 15 support staff like nurses and secretaries went on strike after the union and school officials failed to reach a contract agreement early this morning. School officials filled the gaps by employing volunteers, assigning double duty and in some cases, union members came to work anyway.
The union and the district are scheduled to resume negotiations on Wednesday.
