Sweden was the first country in the world to give fathers paid paternity leave. They did it in 1974. Men in Sweden take more parental leave than anywhere else in the world and now the government has proposed adding an additional month of paid paternity leave for fathers. The legislation has the support of the current governing party as well as the opposition. It would go into effect next year.
